Good Nutrition and Health


What is nutrition:

Nutrition is a process of providing the food necessary for health and growth. Good Nutrition is essential for the maintenance and restoration of health. Diseases are as a result of lack of good nutrition, from a consumption of a diet that is unsuitable for a certain person or an ingestion of harmful quantities of unusual substances which may be associated with certain food. Which are referred to as nutrients. Thus, good Nutrition in health is very crucial.

Nutrients in food are chemical substances of known composition and structure and are classifieds as::

CabohydratesL Lipids also known as fat, Proteins, Vitamins and minerals.Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates consists of carbon.hydrogen and oxygen. The body’s usual source of energy for mas muscular work, body heat and other functions’ comes from the burning of these calories in the carbohydrates. Calorie is not a substance or nutrients, rather it is a unit for expressing an amount of energy that will increase the temperature of 2.2pounds of water one degree centigrade

Carbohydrates are broken down and rebuilt in the body. Some simple carbohydrates are glucose, fructose and lactose. Most of the food we eat contains either large or small amount of carbohydrates derivatives.

In order for our body to synthesize all the carbohydrates we need, the body must have sufficient precursors of non-essential nutrients to enable it to synthesize the carbohydrates, fats and protein necessary for proper health Thus, good Nutrition is very necessary for our health to be able to feed the metabolic Mill in our body which produces new compounds.

Proteins.EAT TO LOSE WEIGHT

These are large molecules which contains nitrogen and are built of amino acids units. There are more than 20 amino acids which differ from each other in their structure. This amino acids which are linked together to form protein contains nitrogen sulfur, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen,

Amino acids are body building blocks and are linked together in various patterns and combinations in the protein molecule. Each protein does not include every amino acid, the body can manufacture more than half of the individual amino acids but some can not be synthesized by the body in an amount necessary for growth and health. This amino acids that the body can not synthesize are known as essential Amino Acids. They are essential because they must be supplied by the food that we eat every day. With good nutrition our body is able to supply this essential amino acids.

The nutrition value of a protein depends on with the number and type of amino acids it contains. Our body protein serves many functions’. They are part of our skin, hair nails and the connecting tissues. Many hormones are also derivatives of amino acids, Enzymes arrays in the body are also protein.

Fats

These are also known as lipids They are less complex than protein and they are also constituted of fundamental units known as fatty acids. Certain fatty acids cannot be synthesized by the body and therefore they must be supplied by the food we eat on a daily basis. Eating food that have a good value of nutrition will take care of these. These fatty acids that cannot be synthesizes by the body are known is essential fatty acids, The body organism break down ingested fat and re synthesizes it into fats characteristics of its tissues.

Vitamins and minerals

Other than protein, fats and carbohydrates, there are other substances that the body must have and which it does not synthesize. These are vitamins and minerals. Our body requires vitamins and minerals that must be supplied with the food we eat. Our diet must include all the minerals and vitamins required by our body this also include calcium and iron.

These nutrients that are never synthesized by our body are needed in small quantities which means that they are not source of energy. Instead, they serve as catalysts for bringing about transformations and reactions in our body tissues. Lack of a particular vitamin or mineral may bring about a given symptoms or a deficiency disease. Most of these vitamins and minerals comes from fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately with our busy schedules we do not incorporate fruits and vegetables in our every day diet.

There are supplements that one can use that are either tablets or caplets that are vitamins, calcium, omega the list is endless. Talk to your dietitian about them and see what he or she will recommend

Good nutrition is very essential in our health. To prevent diseases that are caused by nutrition deficiencies one must observe high quality of nutrition as this will promote good health.
